Get involved · We are still building the foundation

We are at the stage
of building the organisation.
Every form of support matters.

Five distinct ways to be part of the work, none more valuable than the others. Whether you have money, time, a professional network, or simply attention to spare, there is a path that fits what you can offer and the convictions that brought you here.

The most useful thing a supporter can do is to commit slowly and stay. We are not in a hurry — we are in it for the long work.

We are still small. That is intentional, and we want to be honest about what it means.

Cafkralu Foundation is in its fifth year. We are a registered Australian charity with eight staff, a portfolio of programs across greater Sydney, and a roadmap toward Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. We are also still small enough to know every partner organisation by name, and to answer most enquiries ourselves.

That combination — small, registered, growing carefully, working toward DGR — means that contributions made now have an outsized impact. They help us build the organisational capacity to do more of the work well, and they help us reach the point at which donations become tax-deductible.

If you are considering being part of the work, the five ways below cover most of what is possible. If you have something else in mind, we would much rather hear about it.

02

Each is described below — what it looks like in practice, who it is a good fit for, and what you can expect from us in return.

Financial contributions
a. — Financial contributions

One-off or recurring gifts.

Direct financial contributions allow us to plan and commit to multi-year programs. They are the most flexible form of support we receive, and they are the foundation of everything else.

Good fit if: you want to support the work without a specific time commitment, you prefer to remain at arm’s length from operational decisions, or you would like to contribute regularly over time.

What to expect: an acknowledgement of your contribution within two working days, and an annual impact summary showing where your support went.

Note on tax-deductibility: we are working toward DGR status. Until that is granted, contributions to Cafkralu Foundation are not tax-deductible.

Corporate partnerships
b. — Corporate partnerships

Long-term alignment between your organisation’s CSR goals and the communities we serve.

Corporate partnerships are multi-year arrangements, typically combining financial support with employee engagement and pro bono contributions from the partner organisation.

Good fit if: your organisation has a defined CSR or community impact strategy, you are looking for a long-term partner rather than a one-off donation recipient, and you are comfortable with detailed annual reporting on outcomes.

What to expect: an initial conversation to scope alignment, a written partnership proposal, quarterly check-ins with a named contact on our team, and an annual impact report tailored to your organisation.

Funding policy: we do not accept funding from gambling, tobacco, alcohol, or fossil fuel interests. If this rules your organisation out, we would still welcome the conversation.

Community collaborations
c. — Community collaborations

Working with local groups, faith communities, and grassroots networks.

Community collaborations are with the neighbourhood-level organisations that already hold the trust of the people we serve — community centres, faith groups, mutual aid networks, local sports clubs, parent groups, and the like.

Good fit if: your organisation is embedded in a specific local community, you have a working knowledge of what is needed on the ground, and you would value having a foundation partner to share the load.

What to expect: an initial listening conversation (we do not arrive with a pre-written plan), an honest assessment of whether the foundation is the right partner for what you need, and ongoing support that respects your organisation’s autonomy.

Volunteer opportunities
d. — Volunteer opportunities

Skilled and general volunteering, with roles that fit your time and skills.

We work with volunteers across several areas. Most roles are skilled — particularly in communications and design, governance support, event coordination, translation, legal and accounting (pro bono), and IT. We also take a small number of general volunteers for specific events and outreach activities.

Good fit if: you have skills you would like to contribute, you can commit to a minimum of three months at roughly four hours per month, and you are comfortable working in a small team where roles are not always strictly defined.

What to expect: an initial conversation about your skills and availability, a clear role description before any commitment, a named contact within the team, and access to our volunteer handbook and induction.

What it is not: we do not place volunteers directly with program participants without going through a partner organisation. Most volunteer work happens in support of our operations rather than in direct service delivery.

Awareness and advocacy
e. — Awareness and advocacy

Sharing the work within your networks amplifies every dollar and every hour.

You do not need to give money or time to be part of this work. Sharing what we do within your own networks — social, professional, or personal — is one of the most effective forms of support we receive.

Good fit if: you would like to help but cannot commit financially or in time, you have networks that might be interested in the work, or you simply believe the work matters and want others to know it exists.

What to expect: a quarterly email with shareable content (if you would like to receive it), an annual impact summary you can share, and — most importantly — our gratitude.

One-off donations with no follow-up

We will gratefully accept a one-off donation, but we are not the right recipient for donors looking for a transactional relationship. Our work is built on long-term commitment, and we are at our best with supporters who understand and value that.

Funding from excluded industries

We do not accept funding from gambling, tobacco, alcohol, or fossil fuel interests, regardless of the size of the contribution. This is a published policy and we apply it consistently.

Volunteers without a defined role

We are a small team and do not have the capacity to host volunteers whose role we cannot clearly define. If you are keen to help but unsure of the fit, send us a message and we will be honest about whether there is a role that suits.
